VIRTUAL THERAPY FOR TEENS IN BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA

Virtual Counselling for Youth

The teenage years are often a time of intense change and can feel like an emotional rollercoaster. It is a time of personal growth and identity formation, but also marked by intense pressure, anxiety, and mental health challenges such as stress, low self-esteem, and social isolation.

Many parents feel uncertain or concerned as their teen begins to withdraw, becoming someone, they don’t fully recognize. Often, teens are feeling big emotions, from loneliness and academic stress to the impact of cyberbullying or unrealistic social media expectations. The good news is that, with the right counselling and support, these struggles can become turning points rather than roadblocks.

Frequently Asked Questions: Youth Counselling

  • Yes, parents are an important part of the process, and each teen’s comfort and readiness guides how involved they want their parents to be. In British Columbia, youth aged 12 and up can consent to therapy and choose what remains confidential.

We typically begin with a parent session during intake to gather helpful background and ensure you feel confident and supported in the process. Throughout therapy, we may invite parents to join at key points to learn strategies, strengthen communication, and better support their teen, always in a way that feels respectful and collaborative.

  • We understand that parents care deeply and want to stay informed, and that it comes from a place of love and concern. At the same time, for therapy to be effective, teens need to feel that their privacy is respected. When they trust that what they share won’t automatically be passed on, they are far more likely to open up about what’s really going on.

That openness is what allows for real healing and progress.

We prioritize creating a safe, confidential space where your teen can speak freely. As with all therapy clients, the only exceptions to confidentiality involve safety concerns, as required by law. When it’s appropriate, and with your teen’s consent, we encourage shared conversations that support understanding and connection within the family.

  • Yes, therapy works best when your teen is willing and actively involved in the process. We always assess a teen’s ability to give informed consent by considering their age, developmental maturity, and understanding of what therapy involves. Supporting their sense of choice helps build trust and sets the foundation for meaningful progress.
