Meet Our Trusted Associate, Em

Hi and Welcome! I’m Em Raaflaub (she/they), a counsellor offering trauma-informed support for folks of all ages and backgrounds across British Columbia who are ready to explore more of themselves.

You deserve a space where you can slow down, breathe, and be met with care exactly as you are.

In my counselling practice, I offer a compassionate and non-judgmental environment where you can explore your experiences, values, and hopes at your own pace. Together, we can make sense of what feels heavy, reconnect with what matters most to you, and nurture a deeper sense of self-understanding and trust. Whether you’re navigating loss, transition, self-doubt, or simply longing to feel more grounded, this is a place to be seen and supported with gentleness and curiosity.

Is Em a good fit for you?

Are you…

When Em is not in session, you’ll usually find them hiking, climbing, or simply breathing in the forest air.

Em’s connection to the land is an important part of their own healing. The forest—slow, quiet, rooted, and alive—shapes how they show up in therapy: calm, steady, and attuned.

About Em

Em’s path to counselling has been shaped by years of working in mental health, as a teacher, and community care fields that taught them the importance of empathy, advocacy and honouring each person’s unique story. These experiences have deepened their commitment to walking alongside people as they navigate the complexities of healing, identity and growth.

Their practice is shaped by lived experience as someone who has navigated grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, eating disorders, and gender exploration.

Beginning therapy can feel intimidating. Em brings a trauma-informed lens to this work, grounded in respect for autonomy, safety and collaboration. Their intention is to hold space for your story with warmth, humility and trust in your capacity for change and resilience.

In this beautifully messy world, you deserve to have some time to sit in a safe space, learn more about yourself, find your voice and explore what brings you happiness.

Em’s Areas of Focus & Support

Counselling with Young Adults

Em’s time as a teacher helped them understand the real pressures young adults face; balancing school expectations, navigating friendships and family dynamics, and exploring who they are and want to become. They know that opening up can feel uncomfortable or uncertain, so they take time to build trust at a pace that feels right. Em supports young people by helping them name and make sense of their emotions, recognize their strengths, and find new ways to cope with stress or self-doubt. Whether it’s talking through school challenges, exploring identity, or finding healthier ways to manage anxiety, Em creates a space where young people feel genuinely seen and understood.

Counselling with Women

Through decades of community work, Em has had the privilege of walking alongside women who are rediscovering their inner strength and learning to trust their own voices. They understand that this process often involves unlearning old patterns, healing from burnout or self-doubt, and reclaiming space for personal growth and authenticity. Em supports women by helping them reconnect with their values, set compassionate boundaries, and nurture a sense of confidence grounded in self-acceptance. Whether it’s navigating life transitions, rebuilding after hardship, or simply wanting to feel more grounded and empowered, Em offers a space where women can explore who they are, with honesty, courage, and care.

Counselling with LGBTQIA2S+ Individuals

As a community member and mental health professional, Em has supported gender nonconforming individuals and LGBTQIA2S+ folks in exploring identity, belonging, and self-acceptance in affirming and empowering ways. They understand the courage it takes to move through a world that doesn’t always make space for all expressions of self, and they approach this work with deep respect and care. Em offers support in navigating relationships, identity transitions, and the impacts of discrimination or erasure, while helping people connect with pride, resilience, and community. Their approach centers safety and authenticity, creating a space where people can show up fully as themselves and feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
